Hi-Fi cables

Welcome to Al’s Audio Hi-Fi cables section. Audio cables for the discerning listeners.

Are you looking to bring your audio system to a whole new level? We build cables for that! We build the common cable types used in power and signal delivery in both analog and digital formats for Hi-Fi systems.

We currently build two tiers of cables. Our entry level Black Series and the Silver Series which easily challenge the world's most renowned cables.

If you are new here, we recommend checking out our expandable content below. We have decided to be as transparent about our cable’s design and performance as possible.

Construction

Cable Assembly

Our cables are coaxial by design with a 10 gauge solid core copper conductor suspended with-in an air dielectric, reducing dielectric losses and distortion. There's no better dielectric than air or vacuum for preserving higher frequencies. In this configuration it's also less susceptible to skin effect compared to stranded, which will also mess with the higher frequencies giving the cable a warm signature. Traditionally a warm signature was achieved through distortion and losses. This is why tubes and fine stranded cables sound warm. With our cable design we achieve warmth through resonance control. Warmth and smoothness without the negative effects of distortion, most notably the decrease in speed and loss of information. The only other reason stranded is the most common is due to its manageability, but our cables are no compromise.

Solid core is the way to go if you want true transparency with less distortion. The results far outweigh the inconvenience of installing our stiff cables. Not saying our cables are unmanageable, you just have to mold them into shape before plugging in. Our cables can easily support themselves and can actually put less stress on your connectors over something just hanging off. Clearances are roughly the same as your standard 10 gauge stranded cable assembly, ex. Cabtyre.

Each gauge size has its own sonic qualities. Small gauge doesn't have the heft, weight, grip and overall information as a heavier gauge. If you go too big, the cable becomes less manageable and you lose some momentum and impact. We chose 10 gauge for its balanced sonic qualities and manageable size and weight.

Terminations

Every series of our cable lineup share the same connectors. All our connectors are rhodium plated copper, terminated with silver solder. The sonic effects of plating at the terminations are minimal, with rhodium being the most dramatic. Rhodium almost has a filtering effect which contributes to a blacker background, with a slightly warmer, darker signature.

Our speaker cables can be terminated in your choice of either spade or banana, and for EU customers we have schuko plugs for our power cables.

It should be noted that our XLR cables are wired single ended. This means you may encounter a db drop depending on your system. We recommend choosing RCA over XLR if you have both options. Our XLR connectors are very expensive and offer nothing over RCA due to the design of our cables. We offer XLRs for those who have no other choice but want the best sounding cables in their system.

Warranty

We are extremely confident in the construction of our cables that we offer a 5 Year Warranty, parts and labor, even if it was your fault. If they ever fail we will make them even stronger. At this time we are using the strongest materials and construction methods to offer a nearly indestructible cable with safety and quality in mind. We will cover shipping both ways if your cable needs to be brought in for repairs.

Technologies

Flux Guides

Our Flux Guides compress natural lines of flux with magnetic fields to increase the slew rate of the device to which it’s connected. This technology is strategically placed and configured in a way that can be visualized as water running through a hose nozzle, where the compression increases the water pressure and expels faster and further than without the high pressure nozzle. Our Flux Guides, in combination with our cable design results in a slight excess of preserved treble energy. In return, the flux guides exhibit a huge increase in speed and dynamics with a very fast, tight low-end compared to only the cabling itself. To combat these unwanted characteristics due to the integration of our flux guides, we have another technology called;

Resonant Coupling

Our Resonant Coupling is achieved through the use of pure 7 nine silver powder which goes through a 3 day heat treatment process before being implemented into the cable to maximize its effectiveness. This technology’s main intent is to alter the resonant frequencies of our copper conductors. Electricity (vibrations) flow through a conductor most efficiently at a conductor's resonant frequency. Silver’s peak resonant frequencies is around 6khz. So silver cabling tends to lean on the bright side because of the upper frequencies having more energy. Therefore, the material's natural resonant frequency inversely affects the tonality of the conductor through coupling. By coupling silver to copper, we can deal with that excessive treble energy and skin effect distortions. Silver is also a very dense metal which makes it perfect for damping the conductor. To improve on the effectiveness of our Resonant Coupling and its damping effects, we have another technology called;

Resonant Dispersion

Resonant Dispersion is a custom tuned aluminum coupler that is clamped on the cables. This assists in the damping of vibrations while imposing its own resonant characteristics to the conductor through its compression of the cable. By tuning this coupler you can focus on damping certain frequencies. By capturing vibrations and dispersing the energy, a more neutral signal is achieved. With the extreme compression at the site of the coupler, there is almost a direct link for vibrations to flow from the outside coupler to the conductor. This makes it very modder/tweaker friendly. Speaking of tweaks, check out our last technology;

Cold Burn

All of our cables are treated to our cold-burn procedure. Putting both cable cooker and cables in a ULTF and letting it burn-in for 5 days while exposed to -89° C temperatures produces surprising results! As you lower the temperature of a conductor you increase its conductivity. The colder you can get a conductor the faster, cleaner and more linear the signal. Just as an amplifier sounds different, cold versus warm. When you burn-in a cable over long periods of time, your system becomes imprinted in its signature. Imprinting a signature of near purity from this burn-in process is the icing on the cake. With our cables heavy gauge, you will need to give them a bit of time to settle into your system aswell, but most of the work has been done.

Black Series

The Black Series are our entry level cables. There is some serious bang for the buck with this series. The Black Series is a Silver Series minus the silver and coupler. It still incorporates our Flux Guide technology and goes through the same 5 day Cold Burn procedure as the Silver Series.

The Black Series is a taste of what can be achieved with our Silver Series. So if you like what you hear, we encourage you to take advantage of our trade-up program. Trade-up your Black Series and get credited what you paid that you can use towards a Silver Series upgrade. Must be the same cable and length, or longer.

The Black Series are built to order and can be built in about 1 week plus shipping time. If the Black Series doesn't provide what you are looking for it can be returned with-in 30 days or traded up towards a Silver Series, if you think they would work better for you.

Silver Series

The star of the show are the Silver Series cables which incorporate all technologies mentioned. Its development started back before the Black Series and has just recently been finalised. We label this final version as MKII. The Silver Series MKII contains a good 80% more silver than the review samples. This is why the pricing on reviews are all out of whack. After discovering how to implement more silver the cost skyrocketed but it sounds ridiculously better! The price below is for the MKII version and can be identified by its black coupler with the cable’s direction labeled.

The Silver Series are built to order and can be built in about 2 weeks plus shipping time. The Silver Series can not be returned with-in 30 days. If this is an issue for you, please feel free to contact us and we will see what we have at the shop. Chances are we have something you can try before the commitment.

"You've got a great product and I'll be using it in a variety of systems as I find it worthy to be held in high ranking. Way better than a lot of cords costing more. Much more in fact."

-Clement Perry. Stereo Times

I need to be honest, I put my ps audio ac 12 back on my amp, clearly a difference was heard. You have something really good there.

-Batts. CAM PM

I was part of Al's Audio no-strings-attached loaner program and liked this cable so much, I bought it. Matt was ultra-cool through the entire process - no pressure, friendly, super responsive, patient and helpful (and I think their cables are terrific). A real asset to CAM. Highest recommendation!

-Randy. CAM FB

Very easy transaction with Al's Audio. Prompt communications and above all this member is true to his word which is worth more than a pound of gold to me. The loaner program ''Al's Audio Silver Series 6ft Power Cable'' arrived at my door as promised. Highly recommended with a ''Never Heard Before SoTA'' product.

-Terry. CAM FB

Just doing so serious listening right now trying to hear what the differences are between my cable and yours. Some of the big ones are micro details and how notes seem to linger a little longer with your cable. It's been very interesting so far.

-Jeff. CAM PM

First off, Matthew is a super guy to deal with. Shipped the cable out in no time and I was sold on it within the first 10 minutes of placing it in my system. I was very skeptical of a digital cable having any more impact then my AQ. Wow, was I wrong. I don't know how to articulate sound all that well, I'm not a reviewer and don't understand what they are attempting to articulate half the time. Everything is pulled together and tighter. My AMTs seemed to splash voices above speakers. The Silver cable pulled that in as well, voices are better focused and more realistic. Cymbals are fantastic. There is bass in the middle of the Soundstage that I can't explain. Everything is tighter and more musical. Shocked on 40 plus thousand speakers! Not bright in the least..just music! AWESOME. You owe it to yourself, if you are lookingbto purchase cables, contact Matthew. I am a believer as this cable far exceeded my expectations. This is the best my system has sounded. Can't wait try more cables from this company. I am ecstatic!

-Troy CAM FEEDBACK

Hi. I'm through with the demo over here and will be happy to give you a great review. The cables are everything you describe them as and they are on par with cables costing 4x at retail.

-Chris. CAM PM

Hi. This is my second purchase of cables from Matthew. Both purchases have been great, with the loaner program, I had a second chance to listen to these RCA's after changing my system around. They bring more detail and balance to the sound that I am enjoying. Don't hesitate to deal with Matthew, a great dealer and person offering Canadian made products.

-Carl. CAM FB

Thank you. Yes, I really enjoy your Power Cable, I use it on my source which is a streamer. I love it so much I have to buy, it.

-Terry. CAM PM

What sold me on the cables, is it's tonality, decay, black background and warmth. I have heard dozens of cables and the Deep Black Background of these cables is among the top-tier in quality Piano and Sax tones sounded more realistic then I have heard in my system. The decay was slightly longer (better sounding) with more overall warmth, this created a good balance in my system without losing to much Pace, Rhythm and Timing.
